New Sudbury is a very busy built-up community full of places to go and things to do. It has a wide range and number of dining establishments from fast food all the way up to fine dining, a large number of entertainment facilities like the large movie theatre, bowling alley, laser tag, Adanac Ski Hill and Rotary Park Trail which is an approx. 2.9 km trail that runs from New Sudbury to Downtown Sudbury where you can walk, bike, snowshoe or cross-country ski. New Sudbury is also filled with numerous businesses and retail stores including arguably the biggest mall in the City (the New Sudbury Shopping Centre) as well as many individual big box stores, boutiques and popular retailers. Many hotels are located in this area as well as parks and playgrounds including a splash pad. Along with the great variety of elementary schools/high schools, Cambrian College is located in the heart of New Sudbury along with College Boreal being located just to the West side of the area.
Minnow Lake is an area that is just South of New Sudbury. It is a bit quieter and less busy than New Sudbury and the downtown. It is famous for having Minnow lake and the North shoreline of Ramsey Lake (Frenchman’s Bay and Moonlight Beach), a large dog park, the Minnow Lake Trail and the Minnow Lake Conservation Area which contains Blueberry Hill, Carmichael Arena and Carmichael Field complex in it. Minnow Lake also offers a chance for fishing perch, pike, catfish and rock bass. There are no power boats allowed on the lake, however canoes, paddle boats and kayaks are popular. Ramsey Lake offers the chance at perch, walleye, rock bass, pike, white sucker and catfish.
The Lockerby, Laurentian, Lo-Ellen Park, Broder, Dill, Eden and Tilton can be found in the South End of the City of Greater Sudbury. It is a sought-after area in which to live with its lakes offering waterfront living right in the “city” as well as waterfront living close to the “city” for those who like a little more peace and quiet. It also offers a large range of other residential types like single-family homes and condos in which to live that do not include waterfront living. It has a built-up area in the Northern section of the South End with a mall and many businesses, retail stores and restaurants ranging from fast food to fine dining and elementary schools / highschools. Highlights in the South End include being home to Laurentian University, Idylwylde Golf & Country Club, Loach’s Walking Trail, Laurentian Beach, the Lake Laurentian Loop and Kivi Park. Kivi Park offers over 480 acres of land to explore and is a 4 season park including trails for mountain biking, hiking, fat biking, snowshoeing and both classic cross-country skiing and skate skiing. Canoeing, kayaking and stand-up paddle boarding can also be enjoyed at Crowley Lake with portage options to Linton Lake.
The City Centre area includes the Hospital area, Downtown Sudbury, West End/ Gatchell and the Flour Mill/Donovan area. All these areas are built up and active with people and businesses. With activities that range from walking the Bell Park Board Walk to taking in a live performance at the theatre there truly is something for everyone. With boutique shopping and dining in every area there is always something new to see and try. This is “the city core” so to speak and offers housing options from single family waterfront and non waterfront properties, classic century homes, to multi family or new build options this area has it all.
Copper Cliff is located beside the West End/Gatchell and close to the Hospital area, City Centre and South End. It is also close to Big Nickel Mine Rd. and a quick 16 minute drive (approx.) to New Sudbury via the Maley Drive extension. It is a warm community packed with a curling club, Copper Cliff Museum, public pool, skating club, squash and fitness centre and minor hockey association. Living here also provides a quick travel time to Vale’s Copper Cliff Complex, North Mine, South Mine, Clarabelle Mill, Corporate Office and Copper Cliff Nickel Refinery. With its own charming shopping / business area near the Copper Cliff Club, Bryston’s On The Park and Walford On The Park you are sure to find many of your day to day needs nearby.
